Rail Accident in Egham
In 1969 (Date to be confirmed) an un-fitted freight train broke in half near Virginia Water. The rear portion ran away down hill towards Egham, gathering speed until it derailed just short of Egham Station. It was reported that the guard had fallen asleep and was therefore unable to apply the hand brake in his brake-van.
Egham & Staines Model Railway Society member, Adrian Smith, lived nearby and took these photographs of the clear-up works involving two rail mounted cranes.
